As a church, we have an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in Nicaragua. Fellow Morgan County residents, Lisa and Shane Daniel, are the directors of this mission that they founded in 2019.
When first visiting Nicaragua on a mission trip to build churches, Shane and Lisa discovered a group of boys building a chicken fighting pit. When asking them why, they said they had nothing better to do. The boys liked to play baseball but did not have equipment. The Daniels committed to bringing baseball equipment in the next year. In the first tournament, seven teams played, were fed, clothed, housed, and were transported across the country. God’s vision of using baseball as a tool for reaching young men for Him was then established. The ministry has grown into annual tournaments where the pastor from each community attends and provides outreach to the families and communities. At each tournament, many boys give their lives to Christ and then return to their communities where they are plugged into the local church.
Where we come in—the ministry needs volunteers to come and help with the next baseball tournament for boys from various cities in the country of Nicaragua. The tournament is scheduled for July 13-20, 2024. The Daniels dream of having an entire team of US boys come (with parents/guardians) and compete in the tournament. It could be an existing team, or a team made up of recruited players from various teams. Time will tell when that dream materializes, and in the meantime, the opportunities for service during the tournament week are for all adults and kids and are many and varied. From serving with the baseball camp, to KP duty, to neighborhood evangelism/Bible studies, to construction of the growing campus.

Operation Christmas Child is a mission’s program of Samaritan’s Purse. Each year, through the gift of a shoebox, OCC can demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world. Samaritan’s Purse partners with the local church worldwide to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and make disciples of the nations.
Please plan to pack a shoebox(es)! Boxes will be available in the church foyer and below there are gift ideas for both boys and girls. Take a look at the video to learn more about packing a box. Make sure to include $10 for shipping with your box. You are able to include it inside the box as cash or a check made payable to Samaritan’s Purse or you can pay the shipping online and print a prepaid label which gives you the option to track your box too. Once you have packed up your shoebox return it to the church no later than Sunday, November 19.
Anne Harper (252-665-1102) is the volunteer coordinator for this program in our church. Once again our church will be a drop-off site for OCC and we will need volunteers to help each day of Collection week, November 13 – November 20. You may contact Anne directly to schedule time to volunteer or with any questions.
Watch the video below to learn more and see the lists for ideas on what to pack.

Here we GROW!
On Wednesday, August 16, Pastor Danny shared a timeline of events with the church that has lead up to the start of our new church building on Mary Magnan Blvd. It has been a long journey so far, but we officially broke ground on September 13! We hope you will periodically check in on the “News” section of the website as we post progress on the church building. We hope that you continue to pray for us and this project!
Starting Sunday, September 10, we will offer an 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 service to allow more room for our community to gather to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Each service will have the same order of worship. We will have Nursery, Toddler, Pre-K and K-5th for all three services and Student worship during the 10:00 and 11:30 services.
We encourage you to attend one service and serve at one service! There are many needs for volunteers each week such as children’s workers, parking lot crew, ushers, communion servers, and cafe. Where you can serve?
