Sharing Christ’s Love: Morgan Cares Center
We are excited to highlight the Morgan Cares Center as our monthly mission! Morgan Cares is an association of like-minded members right here in the Morgan County community who have collaborated to form this incredible non-profit charity. Their purpose is to provide short-term assistance—both financial and other charitable services—to residents experiencing significant financial need. Ultimately, they seek to share the love of Christ with those living in Morgan County.
Many of our neighbors face unexpected financial hardships, struggling to keep a roof over their heads and meet basic living expenses. Morgan Cares Center was founded to be a bridge in these moments of crisis, while also helping individuals find stable employment and long-term housing solutions. Rooted in the love of Christ, they are a community-driven, 100% donor-funded nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that no one in Morgan County has to face hardship alone. The center thrives because of the generosity of local churches like Covenant Park Church and our wonderful community!
Here is a look at how they support our neighbors:
-
Personalized Assessment: Walk-in clients meet one-on-one with a dedicated Director to evaluate their financial needs. Through a compassionate and thorough assessment, they aim to understand each individual’s unique circumstances and identify the most viable course of action.
-
Thoughtful Planning & Verification: The Director carefully reviews each assessment to determine the most effective financial solution. Once verified, resources such as rent or utility assistance are distributed directly to service providers (e.g., landlords, utility companies), ensuring accountability and impact.
-
Holistic Support: Assistance is offered annually per individual to ensure sustainable care. Additionally, clients receive access to a network of charitable community resources tailored to their broader needs, fostering stability and long-term growth.
We would love for you to partner with us in supporting this vital mission right here at home!

Real Stories from Our Neighbors
“Such a sweet lady came one morning in desperate need of help! She had ridden a Let’s Ride bus in from out in the country seeking help and to get some food and medicines. She lives alone and no longer has a car so trips ‘to town’ are not often. Her greatest concern was her old dog who was dying. She had no dog food at her house and she ‘didn’t want him to die hungry and be hungry when he got to Heaven.’ One of our amazing volunteers hopped in her car and went to the United Methodist Church to get her a food bag. When we set the bag down beside her in Kathy’s office, Kathy said she looked down in it and immediately grabbed a power bar to eat as if she hadn’t eaten in several days. We gladly helped her with her power bill. She is now on the delivery list for the Madison-Morgan Food Pantry to get food delivered each Saturday. Partners and resources are so valuable to our mission!! We can’t do it on our own!!”
“In desperate need, a young Mom of 3 children came one morning. She had been critically injured in a horrible wreck several months before requiring several back surgeries. She had not been released to go back to work! Insurance settlements were still pending and she had run out of money. ‘Please don’t let my power to be cut off!!’ Life is not easy for so many people!! Morgan Cares needs to be there to help in these kind of situations.”
“Being elderly, living by yourself, trying to make it on your own is not easy! He didn’t have family to help him. His monthly disability check just didn’t go far enough anymore. He was 3 months behind on his power bill and that last bill gave that scary disconnect date in just a few days. ‘Please can you help me!’ Thanks to our many churches who have stepped up to donate funding, we were able to pay his latest bill and keep his lights, heat, and well pump on even when it was frigid cold! Praise to these wonderful congregations!”
“Life is tough when your hip joints that are giving out are making it impossible to work that job you have had for 25 years. He had one successful surgery and was doing the rehab exercises to regain his strength before having the other hip done. He so appreciated our help with his power bill. In conversation with one of our awesome volunteers he mentioned that his home that his Dad had left him had no insulation. That awesome volunteer tracked down a resource that pays for insulation being put in a home. Action Ministries has grants to pay for that! He has applied and can’t wait to get his house fixed up. Thank you to the resources in Morgan County! Come join us as a volunteer!”
“Mrs. A came in today for help with her power bill. She is recently widowed and gets very little financial help from his pension. With the help of Morgan Cares she has her utilities again and resource planning to prevent this from happening again.”
“This young man had a job but was unable to work due to debilitating back pain. He is a single parent for 2 elementary age children. His doctor told him he needed an MRI to determine the cause of his pain. However, his insurance did not cover the cost and he was unable to pay for it himself. Morgan Cares was able to help him by paying $400 toward the cost of the MRI. The results of the test in hand, the doctor was able to prescribe the medication needed to resolve the pain issue. He was able to go back to work without pain! Please help us continue to help others in need.”
“A young construction worker came for help. The tip of his index finger on his hand had been severely injured. He was unable to work for several months! His power bill had grown larger and larger during the cold winter months! With the help of Morgan Cares, payment was made on his account to keep him warm and his finger continued to heal.”
“A sweet young Mom came to Morgan Cares in need of assistance to pay her rent. She had a new baby and was at the end of her maternity leave. The funding she had been allotted for this leave had run out. She was to return to work in 2 weeks but she wouldn’t get another check for several more weeks. Thank you, supporters of Morgan Cares, for making sure she would be in her home these last few weeks.”
“Scary to think that the only way you can survive financially is using your car to get back and forth to work! Your money has run out and you must pay your payment to the used car company that day or they will come seize your car that night!! Fortunately Morgan Cares made the payment and she kept her car!”
“You are working as hard as you can to make all the payments! That rent payment is due in 2 days. You are the only bread winner right now! That new baby is sure cute but makes life extra busy added on to caring for the 2 other children. Yes the landlord is ‘understanding’ but I’ve asked him to be ‘understanding’ often lately. Thank you Morgan Cares!”
